Marcel Tannich.
I am a WordPress consultant with more than sixteen years of IT experience, specialising in critical site issues, complex technical problems and systems that have become difficult to debug or maintain.
I work with agencies, shops and in-house teams, usually on systems that several people have already looked at.
What I do
Complex WordPress problems,
from diagnosis to fix.
Most of my work is one of three things: finding the cause of a problem nobody has been able to explain, stabilising a system that has become risky to change, or acting as the senior technical partner for an agency or in-house team.
The systems are usually complex multilingual WordPress setups, including WooCommerce stores, ACF setups, plugin conflicts, custom integrations and codebases that have grown over many years.
Before that, I spent more than seven and a half years at OnTheGoSystems, including three years leading one of the technical support teams for WPML, working with thousands of real WordPress sites, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, banks and government organisations. That experience shaped how I approach complex production sites today.
I also worked on AI-assisted translation, internal tooling and automating repetitive parts of technical support.
Now I work independently from Vienna with clients worldwide.
Debugging is still the part I enjoy most. Reproducing strange behaviour, reading code, checking logs, testing assumptions and narrowing a problem down until I understand what is actually happening. Those are usually the cases I work on today, especially when the obvious fixes have already been tried and the cause is still unclear.

Since April 2026 I review plugin submissions for the WordPress.org Plugins Team, sponsored by SiteGround. That work covers code review, security-related issues and repository guidelines, and helping plugin authors understand what needs to change before a plugin can be approved. Since July 2025 I am also part of the WordPress Incident Response Team, and I have contributed to WordPress Core.
I am an active speaker at WordCamps, meetups and technical events, mostly about debugging, technical support, WP-CLI and how AI is changing support work. I spoke at WordCamp Europe in 2021 (online) and 2025, co-led its Content Team in 2023, curating three tracks with 102 speakers, and volunteered again in 2026. In Vienna I have been part of the WordCamp organising team since 2024.
I also work on Project99, where I collect and teach some of the methods I use when investigating complex technical problems.

Away from the screen
Life & inspiration.
Born in Innsbruck, after living nearly eight years in Spain, I call Vienna my home now. I like travelling, long walks with my dog, good music and discovering new places, and I still spend a fair amount of time on the road for WordCamps and other events.
