More Time for WordPress: Sponsored by SiteGround through Five for the Future

Laptop, a paper notebook and a cup of coffee

Over the past few months, contributing to the WordPress.org Plugins Team has become a significant part of my time.

What started as something I did alongside my regular job, mostly in the evenings and on weekends, quickly grew into many hours every week reviewing plugins, communicating with developers, and helping with the plugin review queue.

I’m very happy to share that SiteGround is now sponsoring part of my contribution to the WordPress.org Plugins Team through Five for the Future.

With the sponsorship, I can now make this part of my normal workday and dedicate regular working hours to the Plugins Team.

The last few months

I started contributing to the Plugins Team in April 2026 as part of my training and formally joined the team in June.

Since then, I have contributed more than 300 hours, worked on around 2,000 plugin reviews, and approved more than 1,000 plugins.

And reviewing plugins is only one part of the work. There is also the correspondence with plugin authors, team discussions and meetings, helping in Slack, working on our internal tooling, reporting issues, and other tasks around the team and the review process.

Most of this happened while I was still working full-time as Technical Support Team Lead at OnTheGoSystems.

What the sponsorship changes

At the end of August, I finished my long-time collaboration with OnTheGoSystems after seven and a half years. The SiteGround sponsorship was one of the things that made it possible for me to take that step. I’m now independent, dividing my time between my own WordPress consulting work and contributing to WordPress.

For plugin authors, this can make quite a difference. I can review a batch of new plugins and go through the related email correspondence in the morning. When authors reply or upload a corrected version, I can follow up again in the afternoon. Before, that often had to wait until the next evening or the next working day.

Across a large queue and many ongoing reviews, those hours add up quickly. Authors get feedback sooner, ready plugins can get into the directory faster, and I’m already seeing the waiting time in my queue getting better.

Thank you, SiteGround

A big thank you to SiteGround for sponsoring my contribution and supporting the WordPress project through Five for the Future.

I’m looking forward to having more time for the Plugins Team and continuing the work we’ve been doing over the last few months.
