Legacy WordPress
Legacy WordPress Consulting.
Inherited a WordPress site nobody wants to touch?
Some WordPress websites have been running for five, ten or more years.
Developers have come and gone. Custom code has accumulated. Plugins have been replaced, abandoned or modified. Documentation is incomplete, and nobody is entirely sure what will happen if one important component is updated.
I help businesses and agencies understand, troubleshoot and stabilise inherited and legacy WordPress websites.
Diagnosis
EUR 490
Fixed price, no timesheet. Written findings within five business days: what the site actually depends on, what is risky to change, what should be fixed, replaced or left alone, and what that costs.
Rebuild or migration, when fixing no longer makes sense: quoted.
Or included in a care plan: from EUR 79 / month.
Common situations
- You inherited a website from another developer or agency
- Nobody fully understands the existing custom code
- Updates regularly cause unexpected problems
- Important plugins are outdated or abandoned
- PHP or WordPress upgrades are becoming difficult
- The site contains years of patches and workarounds
- Plugin dependencies are unclear
- A rebuild is being considered but the current site still needs to operate
- A recurring problem has resisted previous attempts to fix it
Don’t rewrite everything just because it’s old
Legacy does not automatically mean bad.
Code that has worked reliably for years may be less dangerous than replacing it without understanding why it exists.
I help determine what is actually problematic, what can be modernized safely and what may be better left alone.
Understand the system first
The first step is often investigation rather than development.
That can mean tracing custom functionality, identifying dependencies, examining old plugins, reviewing logs and code, reproducing problems and documenting how the relevant parts of the system fit together.
From there, we can make informed decisions about fixing, replacing, updating or eventually rebuilding components.
